FAMLI: Maryland's New Family And Medical Leave Insurance Program

Q & A from our December 11, 2024 webinar

If our employee works 100% remote from a state other than Maryland would this apply to them?
We have employees that work 100% remotely in other states - our company is based in Maryland.  Are the other employees covered under this plan?
We have employees who are full time with another org and part time with us - will we have to contribute towards them or prove they are part time in some way?
Is there a minimum amount of time that a company has to be in business for this to apply?
Could you explain how insurance would be used for this?
Can small employers 14 or less purchase insurance?
Will there be provisions for "key personnel" like you see with FMLA?
If the state is paying for this leave, what happens with payroll for the company and the continued deduction of 0.9%?  If they aren't working, drawing a paycheck from the company, how is that going to work?
For employees who apply for FAMLI 60 days after the event would they receive retro payback?
Does this apply to intermittent leave?
If someone isn't eligible for FMLA, does FAMLI protect their job?
Is there any fathomable reason that this may not really take effect? I understand the state has hired people and systems have been built, but I want to be sure - any reason this may not come to fruition?
