Spotlight on the 21% and Counting
As a Bel Air native and mother to one daughter and three stepsons, Lisa Garonzik-Bullock was finding out quickly that there weren’t many businesses that offered kid-friendly yoga activities. Lisa is an entrepreneur who has owned and operated several businesses in the past. Before starting Grounded In The Clouds, she was looking to start a new venture that combined her experience in wellness and event planning. After nearly a year of research and brainstorming, Lisa was inspired by the significant success Taylor Swift was experiencing at the time and the growing popularity of aerial yoga. Noticing this unique opportunity, Lisa decided to start an aerial yoga studio specifically curated for children. The name “Grounded In The Clouds” is an ode to the interior space, which has puffy clouds and moody lighting on the ceiling to help mimic floating in the clouds while children take part in aerial yoga classes where they have the ability to climb, swing, flip, hang upside down and learn different meditation techniques. Lisa’s goal was to create a safe space for children ages 6-12, where they can learn how to meditate through yoga and still have fun while doing so.
While traditional yoga isn’t exciting for kids, Grounded In The Clouds is centered around aerial tricks that captivate and engage them. Lisa frequently incorporates different themes to her classes to entice her students to come “fly in the clouds.” Some of the most popular themes have been inspired by Halloween and Christmas holidays, while other themes include “Under the Sea,” “Glow parties” and of course, Taylor Swift. Grounded in the Clouds offers membership-based weekly classes, themed weekend drop-in classes (workshops) and birthday parties for up to 12 children in their designated party room. They also host sessions for parents, like “Moms, Meditation & Mimosas” around Mother’s Day, and “Parent & Me” workshops that promote a fun and unique way for parents to bond with their children.
In the next five years, Lisa hopes to be able to franchise her business throughout the east coast. Currently, Lisa teaches classes along with three other yoga instructors. While she deeply enjoys teaching and working with the children, Lisa’s current focus is shifting towards stepping away from instructing and concentrating on growing and franchising her business.
