If you are a former or active Veteran, have you considered estate planning? According to the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs, in 2022, there was a total of 355,787 veterans living in Maryland alone. For those who have families and children, it is important for you to designate the distribution of your assets – your house, your cars, your savings accounts, etc. Estate planning is a great way to alleviate the stress on your family and make sure your wishes are followed when having to decide what to do with what you’ve left behind when that unfortunate time comes.
Even for those who don’t have surviving family members but still have assets that need protection, the best way to direct what happens to your most cherished belongings is with estate planning strategies. You can even consider donating your assets to a charity or organization of your choice in hopes of benefiting the next military family.
There are many options with estate planning including living wills, powers of attorney, wills, and trusts. If you don’t know where to start, give us a call and we can help you protect your most prized possessions as you pass them on to the next generation!
If you need assistance, RKW’s estate planning team are here to help you.
Happy Veteran’s Day to all of our active and former military personnel who have served to protect our country! Thank you all for your service!
